Susanna Hertrich is an internationally exhibiting artist at the intersection of Art and Science. Her cross-media artistic practice explores our relationship with technologies in a world where artificial-technical and natural-biological ecosystems are increasingly merging. She is fascinated by how human-made infrastructures impact the planet on smaller and larger scales, creating altered states of people, animals, plants and landscapes. These investigations are driven by a design practice in which objects and images bridge the gap between imagination and reality. She has collaborated with international research labs, including the Meta Perception Group at the University of Tokyo, the Design Research Lab at the UdK in Berlin, TASML Tsinghua University Art & Science Laboratory in Beijing, and the Critical Media Lab at the Academy of Art and Design in Basel. Her work has been exhibited internationally, including the 23rd Triennale Milano; HEK, Basel; HKW, Berlin; Boston Center for the Arts; Vienna Biennial/MAK; Vitra Design Museum; V&A Dundee; CAFA art museum, Beijing; EMAF, Osnabrück and Transmediale, Berlin. She received numerous grants and was an invited artist-in-residence at TOKAS Tokyo Art and Space, the Goethe-Institute's Villa Kamogawa in Kyoto, and Tokyo Wonder Site, among others. She was a finalist for the Swiss Design Awards in 2023. Her work has been featured in significant publications, including The Large Glass, DAMN magazine, and Form. In 2021/22, she published the book »Following The Elephant-nosed Fish. Reimagining Our Sensorium« with Shintaro Miyazaki based on their collective artistic research Sensorium of Animals.
